Learn About How SUI Evolved into a World-Class Technical Institute

1983-2001

SIERRA HI Tech opened its doors to train men and women in the Carmichael area in Drafting, CADD, Electronic Repair, Assembly and Computer-related fields. At it’s height, the campus grew to over 600 students and was leading the way in training computer-related fields.

2001-2009

The administration changed the name to College of Career Training (CCT) in 2001. Medical practice programs and trade industry practices were offered to upgrade the education to the 21st Century Opportunities of employment. Programs such as Medical Claims / Billing, Physical Therapy Aide, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and other health and environmental programs were introduced. During the financial
crisis, CCT discontinued all programs and downsized substantially.

  • Sima Dermishyan was hired in 2001 to develop and teach the Sonography program at CCT.

2009-2010

In 2009, Sima Dermishyan purchased CCT. Only one staff member and a small class of 6 students enrolled in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program were all that remained. Sima, with the assistance of her son, Samuel Yarmagyan, began to rebuild the college.

  • Sima Dermishyan purchased CCT when it was in danger of closing.
  • A mother-son duo, Sima and Samuel, began to rebuild.

2011-2014

Sima was trained in Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 1998. With her experience in sonography, she continued to grow the DMS program. The team of two grew to help assist training more sonographers and helping assist graduates get hired in their profession. With DMS being the only program being offered, the name was changed to Sacramento Ultrasound Institute (SUI).

  • Focus was on becoming an accredited institution in 2013.
  • With a team of four staff, SUI continued to grow its DMS programs.
  • A family-like culture developed between students and staff.

2015

SUI received institutional accreditation for both DMS programs from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Within a week of receiving accreditation, SUI began the process in becoming approved for Federal Financial Aid so that the DMS programs would become available to more students.

  • ABHES grant of accreditation including both DMS programs.
  • Enrollment was limited due to clinical availability and financial aid.

2016-Today

SUI grew to a 12,000 sq. ft. campus equipped with over 20 ultrasound machines. Within a year, SUI received grant of approval for federal financial aid from the Department of Education. Soon after, the MRI Technology program was introduced and the goal was set to receive programmatic accreditation.

  • SUI grew into a new 12,000 sq. ft. campus in the Arden Arcade area.
  • Financial Aid available to students.
