As we get closer to the Presidential Elections in November, people are wondering who will lead our country during the next 4 years. Current polls show the race is neck-and-neck, and every vote will count in deciding who will lead our country. This is the reason CW invited the League of Women Votes (LWV) of New York State to encourage our students to register to vote. “There are many issues to address and these visits help to connect with potential voters. A registered voter can change things locally, as well as at a national level,” said Sandra Blackwell a member of LWV.
Exercising the right to vote is a citizen’s fundamental duty, according to CW’s student Malik, “When we talk about elections, we’re talking about the leadership of our country for the next 4-8 years. We’re talking about the power of our vote.” Lenny, another CW student who watched the first Presidential debate on Monday, believes in democracy and is following the candidates to make his final decision in November, “Sometimes we take for granted the right to vote. Let’s decide who’s adding some color to the canvas of America. Pay attention and look who you are standing for on Election Day.”
Dr. Warren Rosenberg, Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs attended the Voter Registration Event and spoke to our students Malik and Lenny, “I’m very heartened to see this outreach on campus to get our students registered to vote. I had a wonderful conversation with two students and they were very well aware of the important issues faced by our nation and aware of the lasting impact on their future that our next U.S. president will have. They know the candidates’ positions, watched last night’s debate, and expressed an impressive amount of insightful thought than I would have initially thought. I have confidence that their vote, and the vote of all of our students, will help steer our nation to a safe and prosperous future. But they all need to get out and vote!”
Many students, staff and faculty registered to vote during the event.
