Student Success Coaches
Each new student is assigned a Student Success Coach to help them adapt to college life at CW. Dedicated Coaches are the student’s advocate and go-to staff member and help develop proactive strategies where life challenges arise.

Academic Advising
The College of Westchester vigorously supports a strong academic advising program. Every student at The College is assigned an academic advisor. Academic advising is designed to foster and promote a positive and productive faculty/student relationship. Academic Advising is also designed to aid in student retention, and to provide a platform for student success, both academically and professionally. Students meet with their advisors periodically to discuss their schedules, their academic progress, and address any questions or concerns they might have. The goal of advising is to help students attain success at the College of Westchester and beyond.

The Counseling Center
The Counseling Center at The College of Westchester provides free individual counseling services to all students experiencing both personal and academic issues. Students have the ability to attend once a week counseling sessions or come on a “walk-in” basis when concerns arise. Topics discussed may include but are not limited to: academic concerns, anxiety, depression, relationships, parenting, acculturation, and stress. The Counseling Center’s mission is to assist students in developing their full potential within both The College of Westchester and their personal lives alike. The Center is operated by a mental health professional and backed by various college and community resources to encourage a safe and confidential environment where students can come and explore their needs and concerns.
The Counseling Center offers many resources for students on all mental health topics. All services are free and confidential. 24/7 online assistance is available at ULifeline.
Individual Counseling »
CW offers one-on-one counseling between a student and a counselor. With an “open door policy”, students can walk in and talk at any moment.
Group Counseling »
Another common name for group counseling is a support group in which more than one student meet with a counselor at one time. Meetings occur once a week or every other week and cover a common topic.
Crisis Intervention »
Our counselors are available should a student need immediate attention. Of course in case of an after 24-hours emergency, call 911.

Both classroom presentations and student workshops occur throughout a semester on various topics led by our counselors.

The Learning Center (Tutoring)
The goal of The Learning Center is to provide all students with the academic assistance required for success in their coursework. We recognize and emphasize the needs of the students to handle their academic requirements while balancing family and job responsibilities. Tutoring is conducted with the understanding that students have different learning styles that need to be addressed with professionalism and patience. The staff at The Learning Center works collaboratively with instructors to ensure student success in pursuit of their college degrees.

Staffed by professional academic coaches and peer tutors, The Learning Center provides students with the relevant skills necessary for successful program completion.
Weekly Writing Labs »
Writing labs are offered to all first-year students. The Writing Coaches present the students with a unique and exciting opportunity to put into action what they have been learning in class by engaging them with innovative and thought-provoking activities.
Online Tutoring through Brainfuse »
CW utilizes Brainfuse, an online tutoring service. Brainfuse provides a unique suite of tutoring, study, and collaboration tools that supports academic studies. Students are able to access Brainfuse’s live, on-demand tutors for a variety of subjects, browse their extensive collection of academic lessons, send in a draft of a paper for review, take a practice test, and use the collaboration tools, among many other options. The workshops at The Learning Center emphasize time management, study skills, and test-taking skills that offer students basic success strategies that will prove beneficial in successfully meeting their academic challenges.

The Learning Center is equipped with 15 laptop computers all with course-relevant software are available to all students using The Learning Center.

Library
The College of Westchester Library, library.cw.edu, provides access to a wide variety of information resources in order to meet the research needs of students, faculty, and staff. The library provides a welcoming environment with comfortable spaces for individual and group study.
Library Databases »
The Library subscribes to core academic databases to include Mergent, Hoover’s, Academic Search Elite, Business Search Elite, Medline and more. In addition to online Library database availability throughout the campus, they are also accessible via remote access from off-campus, anywhere an Internet connection can be found (in or out of state).
Library Staff »
Librarians regularly visit classes to provide introductory or specific research competencies utilizing both print and electronic resources. The CW Librarian has a Masters in Library Science accredited by the American Library Association.
Library Workstations »
The Library has well-equipped computer workstations with the latest software and full range of multimedia capabilities. There are also laptops available for use in the Library.
Online Library and Reference Desk »
The online library and reference desk are a comprehensive series of easy-to-access resources. See link http://library.cw.edu/. The ground library holds over 4,000 books and subscribes to top rated journals and newspapers to include the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The New York Times, US Today and The Journal News which is also available to online students. The Library also has educational and blockbuster DVDs to include free, on demand, online borrowing through Netflix. Over 2,000 other eBooks can be found in the database: Books24x7. Materials not currently available at the CW Library may be obtained from other libraries through our Interlibrary Loan Service.

Students with documented learning disabilities can request learning accommodations by meeting with the Director of Academic Advising.

The Testing Center
The Testing Center at CW offers a wide variety of services for the College community including Admissions/Course Placement Testing, Microsoft Office Certification testing, and Healthcare/Medical Certification testing. Professional test administrators and technical support staffs are available to assist in all aspects of certification testing.
Admissions / Course Placement Testing »
Admissions and academic assessments assure proper course placement for applicants and students. Students can also schedule test outs for selected classes and take makeup exams with the approval of advising and/or instructional staff.
Microsoft Office Certification »
In support of our office technology curricula, CW’s Testing Center is a member of the world-wide Certiport Network. Microsoft Office certifications (based on globally recognized standards) demonstrate computing skills and help advance career goals in a competitive job market.
Healthcare / Medical Certification »
In support of our Allied Health curricula, the Testing Center is a certified PearsonVue testing site offering the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification exam from the American Medical Technologists (AMT). The Testing Center is also an approved testing site for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) offering certification exams in clinical and administrative medical assisting and in medical billing and coding. Both are nationally recognized in the allied health field as offering competency-based certifications that can enhance professional and personal growth.

Bookstore
Textbooks, workbooks, and various stationery items may be purchased from the Bookstore during scheduled hours of operation. A wide variety of school related items, such as notebooks, highlighters, computer books, locks and calendars are also available.
